A Homemade flipbookFlip books are small paperback books that have a drawing on each page. When you flip the pages of the book the drawings look animated. You can draw your own flip book using a very simple technique and a sketchbook or notebook. Drawing a flip book will give you a lot of drawing practice and when you’re done you’ll have a fun toy to show off to your friends.

Flipbook paperOne of the most important parts of drawing a flip book is having a notebook that will work well with the process. You’ll need a small, unlined notebook or sketchbook that has a flexible cover. For

Though any paper type will work, thinner paper is often easier to flip. You will also want paper that you will enjoy drawing on since making flip books takes a lot of drawings.the best flipping, the notebook or sketchbook should fit into the palm of your hand. Try flipping the pages of several different notebooks and sketchbooks to find one that flips easily.

Drawing a Flip Book

The key to making a flip book work is having each page be slightly different than the last.

Make your first drawing on the last page of your paper pad, close to the edge of the paper that is opposite the spine. This will be the first scene of your animation.

Draw the next scene the same as the last, with a few small differences. For example, if you drew a man with his arms in the air in the first drawing, draw the same man on the second page but have his arms slightly lower or higher. The man will look like his arms are moving when the pages are flipped quickly.

In each page afterward, change the drawing slightly. The man may continue to raise his arms higher and higher, and then his feet may rise higher off the ground with each drawing. By the end of the flip book he could be flying.
